Um, Who?

Hi, I’m a Canadian father, husband, son, brother, dog owner, writer, uncle, camper, basement guitar strummer and comedian. Usually “comedian” is reason people come to this site, so that’s what it’s about.

For bookers, agents or anyone wanting a ‘showbiz bio’, here it is:

Rick Currie is a thirty year veteran of the Canadian comedy scene. Besides playing clubs and corporate events across the country, his whimsical style has been featured on CTV, The Comedy Network, CBC TV and radio programs such as: “The Debaters”, “Laugh out Loud” and at the Just for Laughs, Winnipeg and Halifax Comedy Festivals.

Rick has written for many TV shows including The Scotiabank Giller Awards, “Canada 150 – A National Celebration” and the Canadian Country Music Awards. In 2018 he completed an 8 year run as a staff writer for the CBC TV show “The Rick Mercer Report” where he collected 3 Canadian Screen Awards for “Best Writing in a Variety or Sketch Comedy Program or Series”, wrote a sketch that was filmed on the International Space Station and put words into the mouths of celebrities from Prime Ministers to pop stars. He continues to work with the Rick Mercer team on various projects.

So that’s a bit about me, please feel free to send a note and tell me a bit about you.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Big thanks to Mitchell Zilberg of @zilbergmedia for the pic above.

Whats New?

CBC Radio’s “Laugh Out Loud”

In March 2022 CBC’s Laugh Out Loud taped their first live show in 2 years at the Shenkman Arts Center and I was lucky enough to be included in the lineup with Don Kelly, Jenn Grant, David Pryde, Derek Seguin and Ali Hassan. The show aired in April and can be heard here:

The LRT Song

If Johnny Cash lived in Ottawa… I put this song up on YouTube and it got 20,000 views in 2 weeks! Plus another 16,000 on Reddit. I think it hit a nerve. CTV Ottawa even did a news story about it.
